The meeting was called to order by Dr. Joseph Wegiel.
New members were introduced: Dr. Christopher Steed, Dr. Richard Szal and Dr. Winna Gorham
Dr Wegiel stated that two VDDS members were completing the Leadership training at MDS Dr. Rhisa DeLeon and Dr. Ming-Hao Chen and he would contact them to ask them to assume positions in VDDS.
Trustee Report
Highlights: Legislative bills passed last session:
1.) Volunteer temporary dental license at no fee: retired dentists who work as volunteers in clinics without any salary are able to get free licensing
2.) Small employers banding in groups to allow for lower health insurance premiums passed
but there is no vehicle set up as yet for this
3.) Childhood obesity : healthier foods to be promoted in schools
4.) New Bills to be introduced : Restrict Insurance Companies from capping non-covered services
5.) Restore Mass Health for Adults and increase fee schedule
6.) Legislators' Night: February 17, 2011 it is very important for you to attend and contact your legislators.
MDS Foundation: more than $130,000 collected. MDS issuing grants to 6 health centers Caring Health Center in Springfield is one.

Treasurer's Report
Dr. Francis Feeney has resigned as Asst Treasurer and Dr Norman Lee has volunteered in that position
Bond fund/money market has $88,700

Endowment 85,000
Dr Wegiel spoke to MDS officials who felt that it was fiduciary irresponsibility to have a handful of dentists investing funds without some oversight as well as a possible conflict of interest.
MOTION: To thank the Investment Committee for the wonderful job they have done but on advice from MDS to take the monies back from the committee and give to professionals to manage.
After discussion the question was called PASSED. The motion passed 26 members for 14 against

Public health hygienists are being used to increase access to care and work independently
under doctors in health centers, screen in schools/communities
Fourteen new candidates were voted into VDDS membership (Membership attached)
Ballot : The secretary cast one vote to confirm all the candidates (Ballot attached)
New Business:
Dr Maslowski and Bontempi presented a proposal for VDDS moving into the future:
An idea for VDDS to purchase a building large enough for VDDS office, Future business and eduction meetings, and possibly establishing a clinic and possibly a GP residency. A building was looked at by several members in West Springfield and presented at the meeting. There was much discussion pro and con but no decision was made. It was felt that more information was needed. If people want to learn more about the proposal please contact Dr Bontempi or Maslowski.
MOTION: VDDS to form an AD HOC committee to decide what should be done with the endowment funds once the stocks are liquidated and turned into cash. PASSED
AMENDMENT to Motion: That the AD HOC committee once chosen look at present investments before liquidating stock investments. PASSED
MOTION : AD HOC Committee consist of five people. PASSED
